Great Expectations

discover what is next together

Time changes so change with the times. When we get married we sometimes think that our spouse will stay the same as they did when we met – still energetically romantic and reckless or listens to your every word and never leaves your side – remember those days? But we get busy with family and life in general. Different attitudes and beliefs come in as we mature.

Knowing God should transform our thinking. Now don’t get me wrong, it’s great if we can stay young thinking but we are to grow old together as a couple.

If we don’t change our expectations of each other we won’t understand why our spouse has changed, we will become disgruntled, and possibly disappointed – we will lose that ‘joy’ that we had with each other. Jesus reminds us that ‘if we remain in him’ His joy remains in us. John 15:11. His supernatural joy will help our marriage relationship. This happens when we lean in or ‘tilt’ towards Jesus. How do we tilt?

T - be always Thankful.

I – remember what is Important to you both and what is important to God in your relationship with each other and with him.

L – Put Love in action

TTrust each other again as you put your trust in God and whatever He is doing to help your marriage. Pray Together.

In Colossians 3: 12-17 it reminds us how we can change and transform our expectations of each other. By clothing ourselves, we have to deliberately put on the garments as St. Paul suggests, the garments of patience, kindness, grace and forgiveness and most importantly of all – Love. There is a song from a musical called ‘Love Changes Everything’. Our love should cause us to change our expectations as we move with the times together with God’s help.
